Starting serious food prep... question about the food saver
 

The first of the year its time to start serious food storage prep. I was going to ask for a food saver for Christmas. What is the lifespan of foods like beans, rice and powdered milk with the food saver. It looks like there are some nice links to bulk food discounts here. Is the food saver the way to go?
I looked at the little oxygen strips and it seems to do the same thing the food saver does.
My thoughts are using the food saver and storing in metal trashcans.
